About Me

Hi there!

Indigo, here. Since 2012, I've been blogging about, and sharing my thoughts on, the good, bad, and ugly of what I read. I have a deep love for YA, but I've also been known to dip into plays, literary fiction, and whatever genre catches my eye.

This blog used to be Adventures in YA Fiction -- parting with this title, and this identity wasn't easy for me. From April 2012, until August 2019, I've been documenting adventures in reading and loving YA, but I felt like I needed to branch out. I wanted to discuss more than YA, wanted to document my travels here, my adventures in academia, and add more than just book reviews to the kind of thing that I post. And I felt like I needed a new name to do it.

So meet Read the Room.

I'm currently engaged in a deep love affair with academia. I've got my MA in Modern Literature from Ryerson University, and my BA Honours in English from Dalhousie University. I've presented at international academic conferences on topics ranging from The Great Gatsby to Broadway musicals. I'm in a constant state of being unable to decide on whether I should do a PhD or not. I approach everything with an academic lense, whether I like it or not. I know, I know -- what a burden to bear.

To clear up some confusion -- Indigo is not my real name. My legal and professional name is Payton, but please don't hesitate to call me Indigo, or any silly variation on this name. If I don't know you in real life, please stick to Indigo! (No, not like the bookstore. Yes, like the colour.)

I love travelling and when I'm not, I'm planning my next trip. New York City holds the dearest place in my heart, and I'm always looking for a reason to make it out to the concrete jungle. I am a Broadway junkie, and I cannot get enough of it. While the Toronto theatre scene is wonderful, I can't resist a trip to NYC to take in the best of the best that theatre can offer.

Stay a while, and feel free to chat with me about anything bookish, theatrical, or anything in between!
