Goodreads Summary

Calder and Lily never imagined falling in love would mean breaking apart. But ever since Lily started wearing a glass pendant that once belonged to Nadia, Calder's adoptive mother, she's been having vivid dreams of what life was like for the mermaid matriarch. In fact, she's been dreaming as if she were Nadia! And Nadia, it seems, made a promise before her death. A promise to reunite Calder's biological mother with her son. Lily knows merfolk are bound to keep their promises. Calder's not buying into it, though. He chalks up the dreams to stress. He wants Lily to focus on the future—their future, not the past. Which forces Lily to send Calder away. Calder goes, feeling rejected and more than a little tempted to revert to his hunting ways.
What both of them overlook is the present: Calder's sisters, Maris and Pavati, are fighting for control of the mermaid clan, and now that Lily and her dad have transformed into mer-creatures, both mermaids vie for daughter and father as allies. Which of the two mermaids can be trusted? Will Lily make costly mistakes, forcing her to descend to the depths of Lake Superior? And if Calder returns, will he be the same merman Lily grew to love? The stakes are high, with many lives at risk, but Calder and Lily must confront the past as well as their darkest impulses if they want a chance at being together.

I first read Lies Beneath, the first book in the series, in 2012 and fell in love with the series. The originality of the story line and the characters and everything in between made this one of my favurite stories to keep coming back to. Warning, there may be spoilers for all the books below!

This book was an amazing finale. The way that the story ended was perfect in all senses of the word. The characters, mainly Calder and Lily are going through so much when the book started, and I was really scared that their characters would change from the ones I love so much because they've been put under this stress. I was so glad when, even throughout all the changes they were going through, they stayed themselves.

Another Part I loved was the different POVs throughout the novel. Lies Beneath was told from Calder's perspective, while Deep Betrayal was told from Lily's. Promise Bound was told from both Lily and Calder's, as well as from a few others, including other members of the White family. I was a bit hesitant when I saw their names, but I found that it enhanced the story instead of hindering it.

My favourite part of this series was the characters of Lily and Calder. I love the juxtapoisiton of the two, and how well they work together. Their characters have grown together and they are really trying to help each other with whatever problem they have. I have never seen a relationship like theirs. I don't know how to describe it, but I know that it is one of my favourite relationships in YA.

Promise Bound was an amazing finale that kept me engaged from start to finish. I was on my toes the whole time. Promise Bound is a roller coaster of emotions that leaves readers not only satisfied, but happy. I am so glad that I have gotten to read this series, as it is one of my favourite of all time. I can't wait to see what's next for Anne. 5/5 Stars.

Have you guys read this series? If you have, what do you think about the series? And don't forget to pick up Promise Bound on Tuesday the 7th of January!
